Pest management is a huge issue for a number of crops in New Zealand and around the world. Investigating effective management techniques is a major focus for us to help growers and the industry develop effective control measures. Alternative pesticide strategies need to be investigated as spray resistance is or will be an issue for many crops.
Currant clearwing control
In 2012 and into 2013 we have been doing a lot with blackcurrants for the control of Aphids and currant clearwing.
Pheromone disruption is an effective way to manage population levels. This year we are investigating with the help of Plant and Food research an effective lure and kill technique to reduce the population levels in crops.
