Fertilizer application is important for many growers to maintain crop quality and production needs. Soil quality tests and a general understanding of the crop is essential assessing fertilizer requirements. Flavour aspects, yield and quality are all factors that are affected by fertilizer application, which has huge effects in the commercial market if consumers are dissatisfied.
Improving the flavour of fruit without affecting yield is a huge task or many growers. We have been trialing the use of fertilizers applied at different rates to improve flavour aspects of fruit. Additional plant breeding will also be carried out to maximize flavous aspects for some crops.
